Home Decorating Ideas

Now that another Mayan calendar has been found and assured those who were still ludicrously fearful that the world would end on the twenty-first of December this year that there is absolutely no truth to this end-of-the-world madness, it’s time to plan about decorating your home once all the Christmas trimmings are taken down after the holidays.

Here are some low budget home decoration ideas you may want to consider to give your home a new look to welcome 2013:

Add A New Splash of Color. One magazine says hot colors would set the trend this coming year, while another declares neutrals would be in fashion. I say, pay no heed to these home interior design forecasts and choose whatever palette you fancy for your home. You’d be the one living there in the first place and must feel perfectly comfortable with the colors that surround you. Whether it’s hot pinks you’re after or cool blues, take a look at these neon lights at Neon Mama that can change the colour of your whole room with just the flick of a switch – no paint needed!

Play Picasso and Make Your Own Masterpiece. Create your own paintings, have them framed and hang them up on the wall. It’ll be fun to transform your own home, or even just a single room, into your very own art museum. You can take inspiration from the art collections of Charles Saatchi or other art collectors like him. You might get to discover intriguing styles of self-portraits and historical depictions which might go well on your wall. If you absolutely can’t elicit your artistic side, you can cut out a picture from a magazine or print one from the web and put it in a glass frame. You could also get some Custom Photo Tapestries with portraits of your family to hang on the wall! They would add a bit of character to your home.

Hit The Flea Market And Thrift Shops. If you’re looking to add a new piece of furniture to make a bold statement, check out flea markets and thrift shops first before you head to the home depot. Chances are, you’d never need to buy a brand new furniture or furnishing as flea markets are troves filled with treasures from other people’s homes.

  1. Now, this is handy. 2013 is around the corner, and a redo would be nice. 🙂

  2. I think I’ll consider these tips next Christmas.. hehe

  3. Choose your fabric before painting a room-you can always match the paint to the pattern. Take note of the background color, the intensity of the hues and the scale of the print. Then select two or three fabrics in smaller patterns and possibly varying textures, all within the same color story.
