The Heart of 51Talk

We Filipinos have always been regarded as the best English speakers in Asia.  We are also naturally pleasant, friendly, and patient. There are many different types of online English learning sites such as this one provided by AJ Hoge. However, there are many other sites which are predominately Filipinos based. Thus, it is not surprising to find that many online English teaching sites have Filipinos in their roster of teachers.  This is also why several such sites have already set base here in the Philippines.

Among those is 51Talk.  Pronounced as FIVE-ONE-TALK, 51Talk may be read as “I want TALK” in Mandarin. Since it was established in China in 2011, 51Talk is not the number 1 online English platform in China.  It also continues to be the fastest growing online English Language Teaching (ELT) platform n the Philippines since it began operations here in 2012.

At the heart of 51talk are the e-Educators and all the people who strive to make 51talk the premier online ELT platform in the country.  Knowing the importance of their teachers, 51Talk paid tribute to them during the National Teachers’ Month the #51TalkTeacherStory contest.

Last October 8, I was invited to the awarding of the winners of the #51TalkTeacherStory contest and the contract signing of Michelle Gumabao as a 51Talk Ambassador.

 

51Talk Honors Inspiring Lives of e-Educators

The #51TalkTeacherStory contest encouraged e-Educators to share their experiences as online teachers.  Over 250 entries from all over the country were judged based on uniqueness, inspirational appeal, and over-all impact.  Although all of the stories were truly inspiring, only three of the most inspirational ones had to be chosen as winners.

Teacher Amorlove, an Architecture student from Cebu, ranked 3rd Place.  Being a student herself, she understands her students’ passion for learning.

At 2nd Place is a work-at-home mom who’s able to juggle being a single mom and an online English educator through 51Talk.  Teacher Lilydale has the best of both worlds having a fulfilling job while being able to take care of her son.

Bagging 1st Place is Teacher Moyee who was able to help her student overcome his nervousness and develop confidence. After just a month of lessons, he became comfortable in conversing in English and moved to Australia to pursue his master’s degree.

 

51Talk sets Michele Gumabao as Ambassador

After the awarding of the winners, 51Talk welcomed anew Michele Gumabao as their brand ambassador.  This is Michele’s second year as 51Talk Ambassador who has personally witnessed how e-Educators make positive change in the lives of their students.

When she joined 51Talk, Michele also conducted an online English class to different learners. She spent time interacting with the students, teaching them the language, and learning more about their culture.

“I’ve always had a passion for volleyball and strive to deliver my 100% during every match. One of my other passions is teaching. I pour the same amount of energy as if I were in a match because I want to motivate my students and ensure that they learn well and to the best of their abilities,”

As 51Talk Ambassador, she continues to inspire confidence and determination among the Filipino youth. Her dynamic lifestyle as an athlete, health and wellness advocate, entrepreneur and inspirational speaker motivates many young people to do more at their age — to teach, learn, and earn.
