A Glimpse of Pope Francis

An hour-long drive across Metro Manila, a tricycle-ride from Lucky Chinatown to Jones Bridge, a 20-minute walk from Jones Bridge to Padre Burgos Avenue, and a 30-minute wait along the street – all for a few seconds of watching Pope Francis pass by.   Our less than 3-hour sojourn is really nothing compared to the hours many Catholic faithfuls endured to catch a glimpse of the Pope and to listen to him as he officiated Mass and delivered inspirational messages.

My mom’s fervent desire to personally see the Pope and my Catholic friends’ willingness to endure long hours of waiting is definitely understandable; but, what’s a non-Catholic doing among the throngs of devotees yearning to see the Pope? Simply All For the Love of Mom!  🙂

My Mom’s a devout Catholic and I knew how much she’d love to see Pope Francis.  Although I was quite worried about the crowd and the long walk we had to take, I didn’t want her to miss the chance of seeing the beloved Pope in person.

Contrary to what I expected, our adventure (more like a pilgrimage for my mom) was quite a pleasant experience.  The weather was perfect with the cloudy sky and cool air and the crowd was not as thick as I feared.  My mom was filled with immense joy when she saw the Pope.  Tears of joy streaked down her face as it beamed with happiness.  The long walk was definitely worth it!

A dear friend of mine shared with us a media brief so we arrived at Anda Circle just several minutes before the Pope passed. If we had followed the schedules listed on popular websites, we would have waited there for more than a couple of hours.  To our dear angel (you know who you are), THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Here are the photos taken by my husband using his Samsung S4.

 photo pope waiting.jpg

These sacristans from Laguna who had been waiting there since 7am were kind enough to make space for us so the kids could stay right in front to see the Pope. The police officers in our area were also very pleasant and even exchanged a few good laughs with us. 😀

Pope Francis’ charisma reminds me so much of the affable Pope John Paul II

Yes, we were THIS close to the Pope!

A Holiday Gift for the Entire Family from Summit Ridge Tagaytay

Weekend getaway on a Monday? Holiday feasts in November? Oh yes, anything is possible!!!

A couple of weeks ago, we were invited to a pre-holiday visit at Summit Ridge Tagaytay. In store for us was a preview of their holiday offerings including a sampling of their enhanced buffets.  We’ve been to Summit Ridge twice last year and have truly enjoyed both stays that I didn’t have second thoughts accepting their recent invitation.

 photo PersSRTdrive.jpg

Monday morning weather was perfect and the drive to the highlands was sans traffic (well, except for that one we encountered in the Ortigas area).  Arriving at Summit Ridge was like coming back home.  The place was still all too familiar. So familiar that we instantly noticed the changes here and there which we found out were due to rehabilitation after the hotel was badly battered by Typhoon Glenda.

 photo PersSRThotel.jpg

In spite of Glenda, Summit Ridge has managed to continue operations and is now all set to accommodate holiday vacationers. Tall Christmas trees, a lovely Christmas Village, and a host of ornaments greet guests at the lobby.  Even the garden is adorned with lovely poinsettias.  And, yes, they did deck the halls with boughs of holly. 😉

 photo PersSRTdecors.jpg

During our pre-holiday visit we were able to sample the enhanced buffets for the holiday season and tryout the different activities Summit Ridge has in store for those joining the festivities.

Delightful Enhanced Holiday Buffet

The holidays is the perfect excuse to gain those pounds that you eventually resolve to lose at the start of the new year.  If you don’t stuff yourself this season, whatever else will you write on your New Year’s resolution?!

Summit Ridge’s holiday buffets make it even much more easier to put on those extra pounds.  Their freshly-baked gourmet breads alone would have you eating an entire basketful. The buffets are sumptuous spreads of Asian and Continental cuisine.  All of the dishes we sampled were good but the Crab Stuffed Fish Fillet and Slow Cooked Beef Short Ribs I could eat forever.  Dessert choices was just a handful but they were so rich you wouldn’t want anything else anyway. You must definitely try the Pastillas Panna Cotta and the decadent mini Black Forest Cakes!

Aside from the holiday buffet, guests can also enjoy unlimited coffee and cakes from C2 Classic Cuisine.   Summit Ridge gives you more reasons to celebrate Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve with them through fun holiday-themed activities for the entire family.

Enjoy Holiday-Themed Activities

Arts & Crafts Corner, Candy Corner, Meet and Greet Santa, Movie Screening, and Cookie Decorating Sessions – these would surely keep kids entertained while waiting for midnight celebrations.  We got to try decorating cookies and cupcakes under the tutelage of Chef Christine Paredes. I’m not sure how many sessions it would take for me to learn how to decorate like a pro but one thing I know for sure is that kids would have a blast decorating their own cupcakes and cookies!

For those who’d rather mingle with other guests, there’s pre-dinner or post-dinner cocktails.  Make new friends over cocktail drinks, beer, wine, and a cocktail food and cakes.

That’s not the real Santa, and the jolly ol’ fellow on the sleigh is my hubby, But come Christmas Eve, the real Santa will spread some cheer. 😀

Christmas Breakfast Buffet

The best thing (at least for me!) about spending Christmas Eve in Summit Ridge is that you wake up the next day with no dishes to wash, no mess to clean up, AND no breakfast to cook.  When you wake up on Christmas morn, a sumptuous breakfast buffet awaits you at C2!

Enjoy a wide assortment of freshly-baked breads and delectable pastries. Have omelet just the way you like it. Let your kids have all the pancakes they can eat or binge on a variety of cereals. It’s Christmas, so let them have all the Koko Krunch and Rice Crispies they want! 😀

Warm your tummies with champorado or congee served in a station complete with all the condiments. Fill up with more hot dishes including honey glazed ham, beef tapa, smoked bangus, tawilis, chicken nuggets, pork hotdog, buttered corn and carrots, and rellenong talong. All best eaten with warm plain or fiesta rice. Not a rice eater in the morning, there’s also pansit malabon and pasta carbonara for you.

 photo Cbreakfast.jpg

Of course, Christmas morn won’t be complete without our traditional Pinoy Christmas fares – Champorado, Native Bibingka with Red Egg, and Puto Bumbong.

P.S. from Aeropostale Comes To Town

Someone came to town before Santa Claus!  They’ve also brought plenty of treats for everyone.  Cool and trendy kids from our side of the Metro won’t be pouting this season as P.S. from Aéropostale is now available at the UP Town Center.  And what better way to spread the news than to throw a Kids’ Fair!

Held at the Amphitheatre of UP Town Center last November 22, the P.S. from Aéropostale Kids’ Fair was definitely a fair to remember. 😉

 photo PSkidsfair.jpg

Food was everywhere! Servers were going around with trays of sliders, lemonades, cupcakes, etcetera, etcetera.  There was unlimited Sabrett, FIC, Buy-the-Bucket nachos, and churros for everyone too.  Pardon the lack of decent pictures; my hands were holding different assortment of food most of the time. 😛

 photo PSfood.jpg

A fair wouldn’t be complete without games and activities and though what they had were not the usual game booths in fairs, the kids still had loads of fun. Not particularly surprising, they loved playing foosball and painting on the wall the most.

 photo PSactivities.jpg

The highlight of the fair is, of course, a fashion show featuring the latest from P.S. from Aéropostale.  Rain poured just as the show started but the kid and teen models still delighted the crowd as they walked the runway wearing must-have pieces this season.  Two little boys wowed the crowd with their MJ moves!

 photo PSfashionshow1.jpg

 photo PSfashionshow2.jpg

The movie screening of How To Train A Dragon 2, which my little ones were looking forward to, was canceled as the rain wouldn’t let up.  Fortunately, they were able to enjoy the food and games before it rained. 😀

Missed the fair? Here’s something you shouldn’t miss – BLACK FRIDAY SALE! Get 50% off everything except fragrances and watches.

 photo PSblackfridaysale.jpg

This sale is just for tomorrow, November 28, so make sure you spare some time to go shopping. Aéropostale’s Black Friday Sale will be at UP Town Center, Robinsons Midtown, SM Megamall, and Central Square Bonifacio High Street. Like PSfromAeroPH on Facebook so you won’t miss out on any promos and events like the Kids’ Fair.
