From Privileged to VIP with My New Robinsons Card

Before all the hustle and bustle of summer activities, a quaint little red box was delivered to our house.  Inside was a glimmering gold card – my new Robinsons VIP Card.  It couldn’t have come at a better time because my Robinsons Privilege Card had just expired.

I know frugal moms like me would agree that membership and privilege cards provide us tons of savings.  I have a cardholder full of such cards but it’s often cumbersome to have to always carry so many cards.  This is among the many reasons why I love my Robinsons VIP Card.  With just one card, I get to enjoy tons of perks and discounts from over 600 tenants of Robinsons Malls, Robinsons Movieworld, Robinsons Department Store, Robinsons Supermarket, Robinsons Handyman and True Value.

Barbie I Can Be to Li’l Girls – #YouCanBeAnything You Want To Be!

Have you heard of the new Barbie body types?  It has been all over my FB newsfeed the past week. Mattel has released new Barbie dolls that are curvy, petite, and tall.  These new dolls also come in various ethnicity. Well, well, well…Barbie just keeps on evolving!

A few years back, Barbie also released a new line of dolls to show that girls can be so much more than pretty little princesses.  All kids have very wild imaginations.  Many have very lofty dreams of becoming astronauts, superheroes, pilots, engineers, etc. However, for many girls, these dreams are dashed when they enter adulthood. Sadly, in our modern age, there are still those with stone-aged beliefs that some careers are not for women at all.

Well now, little girls have a new champion to inspire them to dream big and to believe that they can be anything they dream to be. ANYTHING!

The Barbie I Can Be dolls empowers children to discover and harness their limitless potentials.  I saw this video of little girls being given a chance to be what they want to be and it’s just too cute not to share. Watch this!

The Barbie I Can Be dolls encourage young girls to break free from conventional careers for women.  Of course, there’s nothing wrong with being a fashion designer, a tour guide, or a flight attendant.  I don’t even see anything wrong with little girls dreaming of becoming princesses or mermaids. But Barbie I Can Be helps them discover all their potentials and encourages them to be whatever they want to be – that includes having careers that used to be viewed as for men only.

Jade Can Be a Dessert Chef

A couple of weeks ago, Richprime sent our little girl a wonderful surprise – a Barbie I Can Be Dessert Chef Playset!  My daughter isn’t too keen about dolls but this was an exception as she loves to bake too.  The first thing she said when she opened the brown bag was, “Ohhhh! How did they know I want to be a pastry chef?!”

What’s Inside?

The Barbie I Can Be Dessert Chef Playset comes with a Barbie doll with an apron and a chef’s hat, Blissa the cat with her own little chef’s hat, a stove top oven that “cooks” cake, baked and unbaked cakes, a cupcake that Barbie “bites” into, a fish cake for Blissa, a mixing bowl, a spatula, and a pink mitten.

The oven tray flips when the door is closed.  Put the baked cake inside first and close the door. Open it again and place the pan with light brown “batter” inside. Close the door and …Voila! The perfectly “baked” cake is ready.

To make sure that her treats are delicious, Barbie takes a bite out of a cupcake.  Attach the cupcake Barbie’s hand, press the lever on her back and watch her take a bite of her delicious cuppycake. Of course, Blissa should also have a share of the treats with her very own fish cake.

My little Jade loves this playset because it allows her to pretend to be a chef.  She says it’s like magic and she wants to be a dessert chef too.

I know our video’s so crude! That’s the fault of a non-techie mom who had just tried her hand at taking and editing videos on her smartphone. 😛 But, as Barbie says, we all can be anything we want to be so I believe that our next video will be so much better. 🙂

Well, back to Barbie I Can Be, unlike her other dolls, this one has not been stashed inside the toy cabinet.  She’s had it for a week already and still plays with it every day.  That’s already a record for her considering that her dolls usually go straight to the toy cabinet after just a day. 🙂

Now, she’s asking me to get her the I Can Be Professor and I Can Be Vet. Look’s like my daughter now has a liking for dolls. 😉

I seldom attend events especially when they are set on weekdays but one Wednesday morning last year had me getting ready to go out right after the kids hopped onto their school service. What had me waking up extra early and braving the morning traffic? An invitation from LEO Pharma™ and their digital partner PurpleBug® to a Mommy Bloggers Meet and Greet Event featuring talks about wound care by Dr. Kristine Guitierrez and Dr. Irene Gardiner, both experts in the field of medicine. Yes, I didn’t mind traveling from my little abode in the East all the way to Sofitel Manila and back because I believe that every mom like me SHOULD know proper wound care.

WOUND CARE 101: MYTHS DEBUNKED

What’s the first thing you do when your child comes running to you with a wound? I bet the first thing you do is grab that bottle of hydrogen peroxide to clean the wound and to immediately kill the germs. The more bubbles there are the better, right? I’ll be bursting your bubble but that is SO NOT TRUE! Hydrogen Peroxide may kill some of the germs (I say MAY because it doesn’t always do) but it also destroys the cells that help repair the wound. The same thing goes for alcohol. Next time, your child has a minor wound, just wash it with soap and water.

Myth #1: Wounds should be cleaned with hydrogen peroxide.

Myth Debunked: Hydrogen Peroxide destroys other cells. Use soap and water instead.

You check your child’s wound and see that there’s no foul odor coming from it and there’s no drainage. You breathe a sigh of relief that there’s no infection. Uh-oh! Better put some medicine on that wound because ALL wounds are susceptible to infection. Even if there’s no foul odor or visible pus, your child’s wound could still be infected.

After you have cleansed your child’s wound, you keep it dry and uncovered for it to heal faster. You could even use a wound healing tool like Woundvite. After all, you have always been told that bacteria will flourish under a wound dressing. Wrong! First, cells need moisture to grow, so keeping your wounds moist will help it heal faster with less scarring. Second, bacteria will only flourish if you don’t change the dressing regularly.

Now that we have debunked some of the most common wound care myths, the next thing we moms absolutely need to know is how to properly treat wounds.

WOUND CARE 101: STEPS TO PROPER WOUND CARE

After finding out that wound should not be cleaned with hydrogen peroxide, I’m sure you’re now at a loss what to do when someone in the family has a wound. Here are the 7 steps to proper wound care I learned during the event:

 

  1. STOP the bleeding by applying steady but gentle pressure. If necessary, elevate the wounded area.
  2. CLEAN the wound and the area around it with soap and water. Remember, no hydrogen peroxide or alcohol please.
  3. PROTECT against wound infection by using topical medicine such as Fucidin®
  4. COVER big wounds with bandage to decrease chances of infection and to aid in faster healing.
  5. CHANGE the dressings when the bandage becomes dirty or wet.
  6. OBSERVE for signs of infection such as redness, increasing pain, warmth or swelling around the area, and pus oozing out.
  7. CONSULT your doctor if infection does not heal, if the wound needs stitching, if the bleeding does not stop, or if the wound is from animal bites.

 

During the event, I not only learned more about wound care but also received my very own wound care kit. Inside my first aid kit were sterile cotton balls and cotton-tipped swabs, gauze pads, plastic strips, surgical scissors, medical tape, antiseptic (for sterilizing hands not the wound!), and, of course, my partner in wound care, Fucidin® Ointment.

SAY NO TO STAPHY, SAY YES TO FUCIDIN

Have you met Staphy? I have met Staphy the mascot and found him cute instead of scary. BUT the real Staphy (staphylococcus aureus) is nowhere near cute. Staphy lives in our skin and in mucous membranes such as inside the nose. He isn’t considered harmful on ordinary days but this naughty bacteria wrecks havoc when there’s a break in the skin surface. Dermo Breakthrough with the NEW Celeteque DermoCosmetics, Makeup and Skincare in One

I’ve never really been fond of putting makeup or slathering on a slew of creams, serums, sunscreens, etcetera just to keep my skin young-looking. However, things have changed since I started teaching online.

I am now forced to look in the mirror everyday because I have to look presentable (SAHMS with no househelp can totally relate with me on this one! Who has time – and reason – to look in the mirror, right?! LOL!). Then I get to see myself daily on video cam as well. Ayayay!!! This has made me realize how awful I’ve been to my skin! I may look several years younger than my age of 38 but my skin’s age is way way way older. I’ve started to notice crow’s feet, discolorations (age spots?), wrinkles and fine lines. My skin’s age is probably in the late 40s. Tsk, tsk! Might be about time to give those popular cbd skincare products I’ve heard so much about a try.
