Colorful balloons, delicious cupcakes, sweet candies, and hordes of toys were what welcomed us when we reached the venue. Though it sounds like we went to a fun party, it was actually a bazaar we went to. The atmosphere was so festive that it did seem like we were in a children’s party.
On November 10, our brood of four trooped to Tiendesitas to check out Junior Preneur, a bazaar that encouraged children to be entrepreneurs and taught them the value of hard work. Little entrepreneurs wearing yellow shirts were quite busy manning their respective booths and encouraging shoppers to try their products.
The first booth my kids took a liking to was Sebastian’s Sweets. There were several other booths that offered decorate-your-own cupcakes but this was the first one that we saw. Jade and Jakei sprinkled their respective cupcakes with different treats – and happily ate them after. Oh, and they also gave them a tiara and a superman wrist band that my two little troopers absolutely loved!
While checking out the various booths, we saw these little girls going around the bazaar and selling their sweet treats. Now that’s what you call active marketing!
Our little ones were also drawn to this booth, D’Cousins Boothing-things, that sold various trinkets. What caught their attention were these plastic eyeglass frames that had flashing lights. Even Jakei pleaded to have the green one even if we told him they were for girls. He insisted that it was green and that green is for boys. 😛 We went around the bazaar several more times and whenever we passed this booth, the cousins were always busy talking to a shopper. Naturally, they received the Block Buster Award and the FMCG Award for their other product, Buko Master.
To entertain shoppers, and the little entrepreneurs as well, Junior Preneur arranged a program full of exciting activities for all those in the bazaar. We arrived late and missed some of the shows and activities which included a Pet Show by the Zoomanity group. We did catch a performance by a little girl and a few games though.
It was while we were watching one of these shows that a little girl – Moiraine as we later found out – handed me a business card. My ever curious princess Jade asked what the little girl handed me and I showed it to her. A short while after, she tugged at my hand and asked if she could see the dresses. Apparently, this was what she read in the card, “Purple: Dresses & Dresses for Cutie Kids to Pretty ladies.” And, mind you, she knew exactly where the booth was coz she had been watching what Moraine had been doing. So off we went to the booth where she asked for a purple dress (see pic below). Purple will also be at a bazaar in UP Diliman on November 23-24. Do take your little prinsesses with you and get pretty dresses at affordable prices. 😀
While waiting for the awarding ceremony to start, we chanced upon Xsight Fotografia‘s photobooth and had a couple of pics taken. Aside from photobooth set-ups, they also offer photo and video coverages for events.
Junior Preneur culminated with an awarding ceremony to acknowledge all the hard work the young ones and their parents did. All the little entrepreneurs were given certificates for participating in the 1-day Business Entrepreneurship Exercise. Special awards were also given to those who did exceptionally well in the bazaar.
Judging from the happy faces of the children in the bazaar and my own children’s behaviour after, I would say that Junior Preneur was successful in its primary objective to stir entrepreneurship in children. The very next day, my little girl placed some of her toys in a bucket and proceeded to our door where she began calling out, “Toys, toys, toys for sale!” Oh yeah, my four-year-old’s entrepreneurial spirit was definitely stirred. And she hasn’t stopped asking me to get our own store. 😀
Cherry Saculo, Director of Junior Preneur, is quite satisfied with the outcome of the bazaar and intends to organize more activities to increase financial literacy in the Philippines by teaching the children the importance and value of money, hard work, saving for the future, and social responsibility. Through the first Junior Preneur bazaar, parents and children all learned valuable lessons from the time they conceptualized their products, set-up their booths, and marketed their products. Hopefully, parents will continue to support their kids’ penchant for business as we all want to see them work their way to being the future magnates of our country.
Junior Preneur is already lining up a series of activities to help our young entrepreneurs in their journey to success. For more information about these events, visit http://www.facebook.com/JuniorPreneur or http://juniorpreneur.org/.
