How To Tell If Your Child Is Musically Inclined

Although music is innate in all of us, there are just some people whose musical inclination is stronger than the rest of the populace.  These are usually the ones who become famous singers, superb musicians, and excellent artists.  As moms, most of us want our children to grow up with a love of music and (secretly) hoping that they could be famed musicians when they grow up.  Not everyone is musically inclined though. Even if forced to learn how to play a musical instrument, some children eventually lose interest.  Before you buy your son a Fender Telecaster, make sure that he really is musically inclined and that his interest in music is not merely a whim that’ll change next month.

Now, how can you tell if your child is musically inclined?  Sensitivity to rhythm and sound is one good sign.  Often they have a good pitch, are able to sing well, and can even compose music.  Observe how your child reacts to the sounds in the environment.  Musically inclined children not only love music but are also sensitive to everyday sounds.  Most of the time, they study better when there is music in the background.

The best thing you can do is to expose your child to as many musical environment as you can and see how interested he is. Take him to concerts, school recitals, or enroll him in summer music lessons.  If he is musically inclined, or perhaps even musically gifted, his interest will not wane and will otherwise continue to increase as he learns more about music.
