Moving House and Having a Clear Out

Did you know that you could make money from old clothes by selling them online? Read on and learn how a father made some cash out of old clothes he found when they were clearing out their home before moving to the countryside.

My wife and I recently decided that it was time to downgrade. We would love to move into something similar to one of these new luxury apartments in capitol hill dc as we’ve had our family home for years, since the children were little. They have all grown up and flown the nest now, so it’s just the two of us rattling around the place. It feels empty and definitely much too big for just the two of us. Although it has been a difficult decision because obviously there have been so many memories at the house and the thought of leaving seems almost unbearable! After a lot of consideration, a friend told us about this Realtor Houston that they used, and we came to the conclusion that it was time to move on. A few months later we had found the perfect, smaller house – similar to a milton house property – out in the countryside and our offer had been accepted. All that remained was to pack up and ship out.

We set to the task of clearing out the house with a heavy heart. I mean, it hasn’t been as bad as I thought, especially knowing that there are removal companies out there who gave us a helping hand. All those years of memories. How were we just meant to throw them away or pack them into boxes? Here and there I would find the odd memento – a child’s drawing, an old party dress. My son seemed to have amassed an incredible selection of DVDs, games and CDs, which he jauntily told me he would no longer need as he now owned a ‘NAS Drive’, whatever that is. How on earth our house had held all of this junk in it for so long without collapsing was nothing short of a miracle.

The problem was, once we had cleared out the house, we had bags and bags of stuff which we didn’t really know what to do with. A lot of the items were in fairly good condition; especially the clothes (teenage daughters like going shopping more than they like wearing the stuff) and it seemed a shame to throw it all away. After searching online I realised that we could sell some of our old clothes to a company on the Internet and make a certain amount of money per kilogram. We could also do the same for our old CDs and DVDs.

It sounded like an offer we just couldn’t refuse, so we began scanning barcodes, weighing bags and hunting for more treasure in earnest. This was actually quite cathartic and helped me to take my mind off the fact that we were leaving the nest we had so lovingly built. Sorting everything out took about an hour. By the time we were through, we calculated that we had made about £50 from all the stuff we just had lying around. Better still, the company would come and collect all the items for free, so we wouldn’t even have to waste money on postage.

A couple of days later and the items had been collected. We were all ready to leave our house. The rooms which had been filled for years with the sound of the radio, the TV, children playing and friends over for tea were now quiet. The carpets, once scuffed and stained, were now pristine and ready for a new family. Our suitcases packed, the most precious of treasures, namely the memories of all the happy times we had spent in the house, were locked safely away, in our hearts.

Proud to be Pinoy, Proud of MyPhone

Established in September 2007, MyPhone has certainly built its name as a trusted local tech brand and has continued to earn a sizable share of the consumer market.  Aside from being the first Filipino mobile phone brand to offer dual SIM mobility, MyPhone is also the only one that offers software that includes “Pinoy Content”.  Only MyPhone has apps with purely Pinoy data including jokes, recipes, trivia, and prayers.  Moreover, it continues to provide Filipinos with affordable mobile phones without scrimping on features and applications mobile users look for.

I myself am a proud MyPhone user and have been using the MyPhone A848i Duo since December 2012.  This dual core phone has a 1Ghz Processor, expandable memory up to 32GB, a 4” capacitive touch screen, a dual-SIM support, Wi-Fi capability, a 5MP rear camera, a VGA front camera, and runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

I’m not really a techie mom so I can’t fully explain the phone’s performance in technical terms.  What I do can tell you is that MyPhone has withstood the use (and abuse) of this mom and her two preschoolers.  Having 4 and 5 year old kids handling a mobile phone without breaking it would be a great test for durability.   Like all androids, the interface is so easy to use that even my preschoolers can navigate through the various apps and even download the games they want to play. Thankfully, they have stuck to the free kids’ apps.

Being my very first smart phone, MyPhone A848i Duo didn’t disappoint me.  With it, I’m able to check my emails and update my blogs’ Facebook pages quite easily.  It has really proven quite handy in updating all my social media accounts.  Also, it enables me to browse the net wherever I am – really quite useful when I need to do a quick research.  I’m also glad that it has dual-SIM support coz I’m still able to receive text messages from contacts in my old SIM (never really gotten around to informing everyone that I’m using a new number).  MyPhone is really so much more than just a phone – it’s my personal digital assistant, my occasional babysitter, my link to the outside world (I’m a hermitmom :P).

If I remember right, my husband got this phone at only around 5K.  With all the features and apps that I’ve found useful, MyPhone is really worth more than its price.  My husband is eyeing the new MyPhone QuadCore A919i Duo for me but I think this frugal mom would make do with the 848i for now.

MyPhone has a great mobile phone for every budget.  They have basic phones, TV phones, wi-fi phones, smartphones and even tablets that are conveniently packed with great features and apps. Be a proud Pinoy and get a MyPhone at a very affordable at Lazada PH.

Getting Family Involved in a Pregnancy

Are you pregnant and caught between wanting everyone to feel involved and feeling suffocated with all the attention.  This article by Nancy Corrigan would be a great read for you.  Nancy is about to have her third baby and offers her advice to mothers new and old.

When you finally fall pregnant after trying for a baby, it’s natural that your family will be excited and keen to play a role. While it may sometimes feel like interfering, it’s unlikely that this is really the case, and it’s much more likely that they just want to help and share their advice and tips to make your pregnancy go as smoothly as possible. So, what can you do to help your family feel involved without feeling suffocated by all the attention?

Firstly, remember that you don’t have to hand over all control just for an easy life. Whether it’s an older sibling who had a baby recently and feels like they’re an expert or a parent who wants to be there every step of the way, this is your pregnancy, not theirs. However, there are some smaller tasks you can hand over, and some activities in which everyone can get involved.

A 4D scan could be one fantastic way to get the entire family involved. The nurse performing the scan won’t be especially happy when your entire family traipse into the room, so this is the perfect way to make everyone feel like they were there. A 4D scan is a video-style real time scan where you can see your baby in great detail moving in the womb. You can then transfer this video recording onto a DVD to take away with you to play to your family over and over again.

There are some forms of help which might actually benefit you greatly. If there are any skills that neither of the parents to be have, such as DIY, you can take this opportunity to draft in help. You can get both sets of grandparents involved doing what they do best to take some of the stress away from you and to help keep them busy and in the loop. Now is a good time to get that nursery painted or the cot built!

One of the times you might need some help is the big shopping trip. Unfortunately, it’s not all about buying cute little outfits. There are lots of things you’d probably never think to buy without having someone in tow who’s done it all before. This means you can take care of all the fun things while your voice of reason reminds you to pick up all the things the baby will actually need. Plus, you get someone to help you carry all the bags – bonus!

The 3rd Babypalooza Bazaar

Mommies, mark your calendars now coz you wouldn’t want to miss the 3rd Babypalooza Bazaar on August 17.   From 10am to 7pm on August 17, the Walter Hogan Conference Center at ISO in Ateneo de Manila University will be transformed into a fab bazaar where you can find pre-loved and brand new items for babies, young children, and expectant moms.

Babypalooza Bazaar - August flyer

Now on its 3rd run, the Babypalooza bazaar will still highlight the same features that made the first 2 bazaars unique and successful: equal exposure for both PRE-LOVED (i.e. gently used) and BRAND NEW items for babies, young children and expectant parents.

The Babypalooza Vendor Protection Program (VPP) will still be enforced to ensure that no two vendors of brand new items will be selling the exact same thing. This helps ensure that shoppers will not get bored from seeing the same merchandise over and over. Items that will be sold are necessities of parents and their children: clothing, shoes and accessories, gear, strollers/baby furniture, feeding bottles, nursing wear, breast pumps, skin care and cleaning products.  Yummy, drool-worthy food products will also be sold during bazaar hours. All these at negotiable, easy-on-the-pocket prices!

To continue providing a family-friendly bazaar experience, special function areas will still be available for free for all visitors, these are the following: The Sulit Breastfeeding station, The Maya Kitchen play area, 88DB Daddy Waiting Lounge and the Mega Soft diaper change area. Besides, Sulit and 88DB, this event is also graced by the participation of WhenInManila.com as one of its online media partners.

Clean rest rooms are also just a few steps away from the bazaar stalls for added convenience.

Venue is fully air-conditioned. FREE parking and entrance.
