Dad’s 67th Birthday

We celebrated our Dad’s 67th birthday yesterday with a simple dinner of his favorite Max’s fare – Sinigang na Bangus, Lechon Kawali, Pancit Canton, and Max’s Fried Chicken.  Nothing really extraordinary but the entire family was there which made the night extra special.

It wasn’t difficult to buy presents for Dad coz his sweet tooth is easily pleased with chocolates and other sweets.  The kids and I got him a couple of packs of chocolates, some sweet cookies, and packs of his favorite nuts.  My sister got him an ecigarette starter kit in the hopes of finally weaning him out of his addiction to nicotine.  It might take a few months for him to shift entirely to ecigarette coz he’s been using tobacco since he was a teen.  If he were proficient in writing, I would have encouraged him to start his own cigar blog.  However, he’s more adept with numbers and would rather focus on his current project.  Don’t ask me what it is though, he’s always been busy with a mechanism, gadget or whatnot.  Give him some scrap metal, old machine parts, and a few other knick knacks and he’s bound to make something useful out of them.

The Various Uses of Disposable Gas Filled Cylinders

From preserving and dispensing food and beverages to providing power to medical and research equipment, disposable gas filled cylinders have been used in a wide variety of applications for years now. These cylinders can be filled with a mixture of different gases such as Carbon Dioxide, Nitrogen, and Nitrous Oxide, depending on their purpose. Aside from their compact and lightweight design, these cylinders are also powerful sources of energy and have an extensive range of use.

In the field of science and medicine, disposable gas-filled cylinders are used in drug delivery systems, medical appliances, and other scientific applications. Nowadays, new medical gas cylinders are used to power new generation medical instruments ensuring accurate execution during critical applications.

Gas cylinders are also used to inflate life-saving vests and other inflation devices. Aviation gas cylinders provide air for life jackets for adults, children and even infants. Slings, rafts and other marine personal flotation devices can also be inflated using disposable gas-filled cylinders.

Due to its portable design, these cylinders are also great for use in recreational devices. They can be used in repair kits for bicycle and motorcycle tires with great ease. Those who are into paintball and airsoft games use gas-filled cylinders to power their Airsoft Pistols with carbon dioxide. Those who provide special effects for various occasions also use these cylinders to power their devices. With this being said, it might be in your best interest to find airsoft parts, just so if anything does happen, you’ll have the right parts to fix it. This will save you money on replacing it altogether.

In the food and beverage industry, gas cylinders can be used in beverage dispensing machines, carbonation systems, and wine preservation. Soda siphons and cream whippers are also powered by these cylinders.

Disposable gas cylinders certainly have many uses in a host of industries. Among their many functions though, their use in the life-saving device industry is ultimately the most important.

Reminiscing High School Years

Our batch will be celebrating our 20th Alumni Homecoming next year and quite a few have been very active organizing the entire batch and preparing for the Grand Alumni Homecoming.

Getting all the batchmates hyped for the reunion isn’t an easy task though as most of our batchmates have already migrated to other countries and the ones who have remained here are mostly busy with their families and with their careers.

Thankfully, some have volunteered to spearhead the committees formed to ensure that the reunion goes well.  There’s a committee in-charge of gathering and disseminating information, one for logistics, another for finance, and several other committees.  There’s also one delegated to designing tokens or mementos to be handed out during the reunion. They still have not decided yet whether to give out custom pins, car stickers, office desk set, or whatever can be useful.

Aside from forming commitees, they have also created a facebook group to keep everyone abreast with news about the reunion.  Through the facebook group, it is now much easier to catch up on one another’s lives.  Through it also, we are able to reminisce our high school life.  It really is fun to talk about the crazy things we used to do back in high school. And even more fun to remember how we drove our poor teachers crazy.

Ready For Another School Year

Another school year has started which means I have more work to do again.  In a couple of weeks, students I tutor will be coming back for help with their academics.

I’ve been working as an academic tutor for more than fifteen years now so I basically have worksheets for all grade levels safely stored in my external hard drive.  The huge amount of files and programs stored in my computer though has affected its speed.  Now I just need to figure out how to make my computer faster so I can finish creating more worksheets, visual aids, and writing assignments and still have time to blog.

Great Toys for Developing Motor Skills

Some parents would rather that their children sit still and be absolutely well-behaved at all times.  They seem to dislike seeing sweat on their children and would rather that their children stay all sweet-smelling and neat the entire day.   Clean and spiffy looking children definitely are a wonderful sight to look at but IT IS important for young children to sweat out a little.  Physical activities are essential for developing their motor skills.   Gross motor skills entail the use of large muscles in the legs, arms and trunk and are mostly developed through active play.  Kids can’t develop them just by sitting still watching television or playing a video game.

Develop your child’s motor skills by making sure that they do get some active play, preferably with the entire family for some great bonding.   You can go to the nearest playground, head off to the beach for some swimming, or jog around the park.  If you want to stay at home, you can play tag in the yard, create an obstacle course in the living room, or play with toys that help develop motor skills.

Here are some toys that are great for developing gross motor skills:

  • Ride-on toys.  Scooters, tricycles or bicyles are not only fun but develop gross motor skills and coordination.  My little ones share a two-seater trike and they love pretending to go to the mall while on it.  They are also quite adept at pedalling the trike that we’re considering getting them bikes to develop their balance as well.
  • Push/Pull toys.  Toy wagons, shopping carts, doll strollers and anything they can push or pull (and haul their toys at the same time).
  • Yo-yos, including the diabolo or the Chinese yo-yo.  These toys are also great for teaching discipline as the child must be very focused on the task to be able to perform loops, flips, catches, and other tricks.  The diabolo may actually be easier for young children to use.  You can start them off by teaching them how to move the two sticks up and down alternately so the yo-yo can move along the string.
  • Balls!  What better way to develop those muscles than by playing catch in the yard.  Balls are great because you can throw them, roll them, catch them …well, basically anything that’ll get your little ones moving.

There are so many fun ways to develop a child’s motor skills.  They will be sweaty and all but they’ll be active healthy children.  And happy one too!
