How To Decorate A Nursery

If you’re a mother who’s only recently given birth to a baby boy or girl, you’ll want to do whatever it takes to make a part of your home a safe, comfortable and fun place for your child to live in. For moms who want to create a nursery in their own home, there are plenty of things to think about before you start choosing the right crib for your kid to sleep in and the right paint for your walls. It might not have crossed your mind when coping with pregnancy week by week but you’ll want to get your nursery looking great.

One of the first things to think about when decorating a nursery is colour scheme. There are some shades which are more child-friendly than others, and with good reason. When looking for paint at the nearest hardware store, you’ll want to choose a subtle shade such as sky blue, a creamy yellow or perhaps a light pink. These colours are calm, pacifying and can help them get to sleep much easier than in a nursery with more intense-coloured walls.

Once you have no need to use a pregnancy calculator, you need to work out where to place your baby’s crib. Ideally, it should be in a quiet, safe corner of the nursery where they’re less prone to sensory overload. As for other items or furniture such as a wardrobe, you’ll need to make plenty of room, as they’ll need new clothes as they keep growing, so buying a large one or an additional chest of drawers is ideal.

Lighting is also important. You won’t want the lights in the nursery to be too bright, as babies can be a little irritable when light gets into their eyes. Buying a night light is pretty useful, especially if they’re afraid of the dark, while lampshades are useful to have to ensure that the room’s not too bright. Similarly, getting blinds and/or curtains which block out sunlight are also important to have in any nursery.

Other things to think about when decorating a nursery include posters, storage for all their toys, rugs, chairs and anything else that can be used to decorate the room which can be easily removed as your child’s interests and tastes change as they get older. Once you’ve thought about all of that, you’re ready to create your child’s nursery.
