Two weeks ago, I bought two VeggieTales videos to provide the kids something new to watch. I myself have been getting bored with our collection of Barney, Hi-5, Sesame Street and Disney cartoons.
I wasn’t certain whether the kids would be interested in a bunch of singing vegetables but the series always shares wonderful lessons so I wanted to give it a try. I bought two CDs: one about Christmas which was very timely and another about sharing which my kids needed to learn.
VeggieTales The Toy That Saved Christmas is about how a toy, Buzz-Saw Louie, changed commercialism and brought back the true meaning of Christmas. This episode reminds us that “Christmas isn’t about getting; it’s about giving.” The other CD, VeggieTales Lyle the Kindly Viking, teaches us about sharing. This one is a wonderful musical that would surely get you singing along – and laughing, too.
Fortunately, my kids’ attention were already caught right at the opening theme song. We have seen those two episodes more than thrice already the past two weeks but the kids still request for them. Jakei, my 2-yr-old, is the one who often asks to watch VeggieTales. He would come to me and say, “Mama, may I watch veggies please po? It’s Christmas tree already.”
Jade also enjoys watching the episodes and at age three is already able to grasp the lessons being taught through the stories. After watching The Toy That Saved Christmas, she exclaimed, “Mama, Christmas is about Jesus!”
This is enough proof that this show is effective in teaching proper values to children as young as mine. On our next trip to the mall, I’d be on the look out for more VeggieTales videos – the vegetables that are good for our soul.
Thanks for sharing about these free printables.
