Christmas Gift Ideas: Health and Beauty

I know many moms have now managed to tick off items from their Christmas lists. But if you are one of those who have yet to start shopping for presents, here are a few not so ordinary gift ideas for the health and beauty of your loved ones.

Gifts of Beauty

I know we often say that we shouldn’t judge any person by the way he or she looks. I do believe this. However, that doesn’t mean that we should not care about how WE look at all. I’m not talking spending hours (and a whole ton of cash) on makeup and beauty treatments. I do think that we all should at least have a basic skin regimen to keep our skin healthy. So here are some ideas for giving the Gift of Beauty.

Makeup Sets. If you know someone well enough, you may just know their tastes in makeup nearly as well as they do. You could have a family member who is obsessed with Thin Lizzy’s top 5 tried and tested, as one example, or another who insists on MAC products. If that’s the case you can confidently put together a makeup set, or buy a premade one from their favorite brand, and surprise them with just how well you know their beauty regime!

Gift Certificates. Having said all this, makeup can be a tricky thing to give as a gift. So are bath gels, lotions, and perfume. Let your loved ones be able to choose the right shade or the right scent for themselves by opting to give them gift certificates from their fave beauty shop.

Salon Treat. It is every woman’s wish to be able to have an entire day of pampering (ehem-ehem hubby Jasper!). Treat the ladies you love with a whole day at the spa. Give them a complete package of facial treatment, body scrub and massage, mani-pedi, and hair spa and they won’t ever forget how special you made them feel this Christmas.

Skin Care Packs. Bags, clothes, makeup…these are among the most often gifted items during the Christmas season and you can never go wrong with them. From Synergie Skin care online in Australia to different products in Spain, people all over the world have different skin care products on offer, and women love trying new ones! This year, give them something that would make them look beautiful both inside and out. For women my age (proud almost-40 lady here!), the Celeteque Dermoscience Advance Anti-Aging Line is heaven sent. The entire line works on any skin type, even for sensitive ones, and is very effective in making one’s skin look years younger. Make the beauty regimen complete by adding some Myra-E’s to your gift basket. Especially if you’re gifting to a close friend or relative (who are really into skincare routines), skincare products like city beauty invisicrepe body balm could be a blessing.

Gift of Health

We may have a slew of beauty products in our vanity table but if we are not healthy, all these would be for naught. Here are some ideas which may seem unusual for gift-giving but are actually very great gifts to give to your loved ones.

Gym Membership. Get your loved ones a jump start on their fitness resolution next year. A gym membership leaves them with no excuse not to exercise anymore. 😉

Health Kit. Who would ever give a basket full of vitamins and health supplements as a gift? Sounds weird, right? But this kind of gift actually shows just how much you care about someone – and it’ll definitely be appreciated by the recipient. Unilab has come out with the Handy Health Kit which contains medicines that we all often use including Biogesic, Alaxan, Kremil-S, and Diatabs.

The Unilab Handy Health Kit is something we all must have wherever we go. If your loved ones have tiny tots, throw in some Ceelin and Biogesic Syrups. These are among the medicines we always always always have at home. 🙂

Have You Taken Chowking’s #BuksanParaMalaman Challenge

Just a few more days until select Chowking branches offer FREE in-store sampling of Chowking Chunky Asado sioplets! They may be mini siopaos but they sure are filled with big chunky and asadong-asado filling.  Mark your calendars and check if your fave Chowking stores have these sioplets on November 28.

Chowking Novaliches and Chowking Glorietta already surprised their customers a few weeks back. Thousands of excited customers lined up at sampling booths for Chowking’s #BuksanParaMalaman challenge, to try out the Chowking Chunky Asado Siopao. They tasted the hot and soft siopao and discovered just how chunky at asadong-asado it truly is.

Chowking Novaliches. Customers were excited to open their Chowking Chunky Asado Siopaos to discover the true taste of a meaty, asadong-asado siopao treat.

Aside from this delicious surprise, a trick art station was set up and customers were able to have their creative and interactive photos taken with the giant Chunky Asado Siopao photo wall.

Customers were delighted and satisfied with their Chowking Chunky Asado Siopao experience. A customer who sampled the siopao noted how it was, “siksik ang laman, malasa, at masarap.” Another one who lined up at one of the sampling stations said “talagang solved ka, kasi hindi tipid sa laman at malambot pa ‘yung bun,” while someone shared “lasang asado talaga, masarap at malaman kasi Chowking.”

Here’s one who doesn’t need convincing!  My Jakei can eat Chowking Chunky Asado siopao everyday and be completely happy about it.

#1MCleanToilets to Prevent 443 Million Missed School Days

It’s Friday the 13th tomorrow and while the superstitious anxiously dread that day, a lot of us are looking forward to it. Well, not just any Friday the 13th, I’m talking specifically about tomorrow, November 13.

What’s so special about it? November 13 is the World Toilet Day. Yes, there is such an event. Lest you think it’s a nonsensical one that is the center of butt jokes, World Toilet Day is for a noble cause. It is part of an advocacy program that aims to improve toilet sanitation.

 photo FB_IMG_1447307378790.jpg

Why the big deal about toilet sanitation, you may ask. Well, according to a study conducted by the World Health Organization (WHO), children around the world miss an estimated 443 million school days each year because of diseases caused by poor sanitation and hygiene practices, including using unsanitary toilets. Yes, 443 million school days MISSED – EACH YEAR! That’s about one month of empty grade school and high school classrooms in the Philippines!!! So, yes, toilet sanitation IS a big deal.

Every day, millions of children in rural communities and urban households nationwide are exposed to disease-carrying germs that inhabit dirty toilets. These germs can cause diarrheal diseases and parasitic worm infections which leads to nutritional deficiencies, physical and mental stunting, and even death.

For the past three years, Unilever Philippines through its germ-kill expert brand Domex, has been working with UNICEF and PPHA to champion the One Million Clean Toilets Movement. Through this advocacy, Filipino families can be educated on proper toilet hygiene and the importance of sanitized household toilets. We stress the word SANITIZE because not all clean toilets are free from germs and bacteria. It is essential for everyone to know that proper cleaning materials with effective germ-kill action must be used to clean toilets to ensure our family’s health.

So, tomorrow, November 13, join us in the One Million Clean Toilets Movement! Together, let’s join the fight against disease causing germs to save lives, one clean toilet at a time. Help spread awareness on the sanitation issue caused by unsanitary toilets by watching and sharing the “Sick Days” video. Don’t forget to use the hashtags #1MCleanToilets and #WorldToiletDay2015 when you share the video. 🙂

McHappy Day Stripes Run 2015: Ready, Set, Read!

Did you know that our much-loved McDonald’s is a very passionate advocate of child literacy in the country? The Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) Philippines has touched over 11 million children through their flagship program, ‘Ronald McDonald Read to Learn’.

The famous red stripes has come up with this year’s big event to raise funds for the literacy program through the McHappy Day Stripes Run. Yep, we are all invited to run for a cause, people! A very good cause at that.

mchappy day stripes run

McHappy Day Stripes Run 2015 is open to everyone. This year’s event is even bigger than anyone has ever imagined. One will happen in BGC, Taguig City on November 28 and another round will be hosted in People’s Park, Davao City on December 5.

You don’t need to have any professional experience with marathons. Of course, some distance training might come in really handy to avoid injuries. The organizers have thought of everything. There are several distance brackets to choose from so that anyone can participate. The categories are for 1k, 3k, 5k, and 10k; regardless if you’re a kid, a teen, or an adult, there’s one that will fit you just right. You can run with your friends, your whole family, or even on your own. Remember: this is for a very, very good cause.

It’s not even a hassle to register for the event. All you have to do is fill out the form from any of the selected branches or online at www.mchappyday.com.ph. When that’s done, settle the fees based on the bracket you chose, and you can claim your race kit immediately after.

Race categories include:

  • Catch Hamburglar 1K (8 years and below) – Php 400
  • Run Grimace Run 3K Children (15 years old and below) – Php 495
  • Run Grimace Run 3K Adult (16 years old and up) – Php 495
  • McDonald’s Family Dash 3K (2 kids under 15 years and 2 adults) – Php 1500
  • Early Birdie 5K (16 years old and up) – Php 795
  • Ronald McDonald Challenge 10K (16 years old and up) – Php 995

Each kit includes a McHappy Day shirt, McDonald’s red and white striped socks, stub for a free McDonald’s breakfast meal at the venue, and a race bib. I’m really gonna treasure those socks. LOL!

But the fun won’t end there! After the race, participants can make their day even more enjoyable by visiting the activity booths at the venue. It’s all about making the most out of the day. And when you come home tired and maybe a little sore, you can go to bed with a smile, knowing that you helped a child have the opportunity to learn to read. If that’s not fulfilling enough, I don’t know what is.

For more information on the McHappy Day Stripes Run, visit mchappyday.com.ph or follow McDonald’s official Facebook page at facebook.com/mcdo.ph. Sign-up today and tell your family and friends about it! Don’t forget to use the hashtag #McDoStripesRun and tag @McDo_PH on Twitter and Instagram.

Here’s the list of registration centers. 🙂 Sign-up today as you grab some Chicken McDo or a BigMac!
